OUR TOP TEN PRIORITIES FOR A GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE RUGBY 2012

RUGBY GREEN COUNCILLORS WILL STAND FOR!

    1.     Putting Rugby First! - The Green Party has been transforming politics in towns and cities across the UK.  Green Councillors have saved post offices, made streets safer, and are well known for working hard for local communities because they believe in putting the community first!

2.     Greens believe Rugby could be a Green Jobs Boom Town and Protect 1000 workers jobs at Alstom in Rugby! -  Rugby Green Party is concerned about the rumours (and also cuts to orders to local firms by Alstrom) of a closure threat or severe cuts back at the Alstom plant (affecting 1000 Rugby workers) – which would be a disaster for Rugby. Greens in Rugby firmly believe that this plant instead could aid Rugby to be at the very front of green technology and alternative energy production in the UK with Rugby Council and Government support.

Greens say:

·        Instead of importing turbines and equipment from abroad -- produce them in Rugby! 

·        usE THE SKILLS OF RUGBY WORKERS TO BUILD TURBINES and alternative energy products!

·        We beliEve 1 miilon Green Jobs could be created in the UK and Rugby workers has real skills that could be built on.

·        ONly a Green Councillor has the imagination and will to demand Rugby council promote our town as a centre for alternative energy! 

3.     No cuts to Jobs and services – A real threat hangs over Rugby, losing core services and facing mass unemployment to pay for the Bankers Gambling Debts!  Instead the Greens say; tackle the £120bn of tax evasion every year, Tax the Bankers bonuses, Scrap the money pit that is PFI and end the £100m a year of ‘charity status’ in tax relief to elitist Public Schools like Rugby School.

GREENS SAY:

·        Why should we be expected to pick up the tab instead of the very wealthy? The Green Party and our Leader Caroline Lucas MP are the only major political party that rejects the flawed economics of the Cuts!

4.     Save St Cross and the NHS - STOP NHS Privatisation – Rugby Green Party is calling for local people to use ‘people power’ to fight the privatisation of the NHS – started by New Labour and now carried on by the CONDEMs.

5.     A Sustainable, Green and Efficient Rugby – £millions a year could be saved by the local council and local people and also provide and save jobs in Rugby. BY;

o   Sustainable purchasing from local groups of companies - instead of big business.

o   Green and efficient generation of energy needs - by installing renewable energy technology on council buildings and similarly helping local communities to produce their own cheap and sustainable energy.

6.     Cutting fuels bills by providing free Insulation for many homes in Rugby  – It’s been done by other local authorities through Green Party pressure by making the utility companies pay

7.     Greens demand a Health Survey –Concerns locally exist about perceptions of higher than normal cancers, blood disorders and Asthma’s in parts of Rugby.

8.     Rail not Road – The Green Party wants renationalisation of the railways instead of the travel chaos that exists now! – Its also a cleaner way to move goods with 1 train = 125 Lorries in levels of carbon omissions.

9.     Homes for people not rats – Rugby Greens are calling for action over the large number of empty houses that are being left to ‘rack and ruin’ – Nearly 100 just in New Bilton and 1.132 across Rugby.

GREENS SAY:

·        ITS A SCANDAL THAT OUR COUNCIL IS NOT TAKING URGANT ACTION TO CLEAN UP OUR STREETS AND ALSO PROVIDE HOUSING FOR LOCAL PEOPLE

10.                        Stop the plan to build at the Masts Site – its ill conceive, a bog standard building plan and unsustainable! If we are going to build anything at the Masts site – let it be Wind Turbines on a ‘like for like’ basis on part of the site to provide cheap electricity for local people and also give consideration to building a pleasant wooded green burial site/crematorium in the area.

A REAL CHANGE – NOT MORE OF THE SAME!

CALLOUS CONDEM BUDGET ATTACKS US!

Callous Tories and Lib Dems are continuing with the ideological attack on working people's living standards by sneaking in a massive tax cut for the rich and a £3.5bn on tax relief for pensioners and a massive £10bn additional cuts in benefits for the growing numbers of unemployed people the victims of their economic policies.

Caroline Lucas, Green Party MP has condemn the budget as increasing the chances of going into a double dip recession through cuts to public spending and the inability of people to spend money

due to pay cuts and mass unemployment.

BUDGET 2012: ‘TRUE BLUE BUDGET IS NAIL IN COFFIN

FOR GREEN GOVERNMENT PLEDGE'

- ‘Environment versus economy' rhetoric and tax breaks for oil and gas show Osborne still doesn't get it

- Coalition to bulldoze ahead with ‘growth at any cost' planning reforms

- Toxic 50p tax cut for the rich exposes Lib Dem failure to dilute Tory dogma

- Budget offers little for part time workers and people on lowest incomes

The 2012 Budget will do nothing to deliver a greener or more prosperous economy - and shows the Coalition completely failing the fairness test, said the UK's Green MP today.

Caroline Lucas, leader of the Green Party and MP for Brighton Pavilion, said:

"This true blue Budget is the nail in the coffin for this Government's ‘greenest ever' pledge.

"The determination to plough ahead with growth-at-any-cost planning reforms and aviation expansion, throw money at North Sea oil and gas, and ignore the potential of green energy shows that this administration's environmental policy is blue, not green.

"The Chancellor's stubborn refusal to accept that investment in clean renewable energy and energy efficiency can simultaneously tackle the environmental crisis, stabilise the UK economy and create jobs is depriving this country of a more prosperous future."

Lucas continued: "Meanwhile, Osborne's toxic tax cut for the richest is a slap in the face for the millions of working people across the country fighting a losing battle against falling wages, job insecurity, rising living costs and severe public spending cuts.

"Having failed to secure either a genuine mansion tax or a tycoon tax to compensate for the Tories' unfair 50p rate cut, disillusioned Liberal Democrat MPs must once again be asking themselves what purpose they are serving in this Coalition.

"The fact that public sector net borrowing hit £15.2bn in February is clear proof that Osborne's destructive austerity drive is failing even on its own terms. And given the increasing levels of joblessness, the Government's blind belief in the private sector to compensate for huge public sector job losses - 270,000 last year - looks increasingly delusional.

"We have a youth unemployment crisis of staggering proportions and a whole section of society trapped in low paid work. While there were some positive measures to tackle this in today's Budget, it's clear that the Government needs to do far more."

The Green MP concluded: "This Budget is a regressive document from a regressive Government. It will do nothing to deliver a fairer or more prosperous UK economy - and it certainly won't deliver a greener one."

GREENS SLAM LOCAL LIBS DEMS OVER THREAT TO ST CROSS AND NHS!

Writing to both local papers in Rugby, Roy Sandison Rugby Green Party spokesperson has slammed local Lib Dems for Nick Clegg's support for privatisation of the NHS and also their own shared responsibility for the threat to our NHS and St Cross as much of that belonging to Tory MP for Rugby Mark Pawsey.

Roy writes;

Its is really sickening to see local Lib Councillors pervading their so called loyalty and independence to the people of Rugby at the same time as their good friend and party leader Nick Clegg commit their support for the ideological destruction and privatisation of the NHS.

St Cross, since the destruction of services under the last Pawsey (Jim) to ‘represent’ Rugby is more at risk then most NHS hospitals from this CONDEM plan and we have already seen in Rugby the dripping cuts of services and wards closures for our elderly and mentally ill people and our local people sent into exile into other towns for being ill.

In the meantime, operation Clegg and the enjoyment of the trappings of government power seems to be the only priority that our good friends in the Libs Dems seem to care about, and they clearly hope that we, the electorate in Rugby and else will be hoodwinked into voting for them at local level in May because after all they really care about Rugby? The biggest sick joke of it all!

Sorry to say, unless Rugby has declared itself an independent state or we exist in a parallel universe the fact is that Rugby and its people share the same threat to the NHS as any where else in the country and despite what appears to be slight of hand ‘independence’ nuisance promoted by the likes of Mr Roodhouse and his Lib Dem gang of Councillors to distance themselves from Clegg, he and they are has responsible for the threat to the St Cross as much as Pawsey (mark 2).
